Travel
In September, Grace
and I visited two of Hawaii's most popular islands:
-
Hawaii, the Big Island
We had friends that
participated in the anual outrigger canoe races in Kona, so we arranged
to stay in Kona for 3 days to support our friends in the race.
-
Maui
Here we relaxed
for 8 days basking in the sun, snorkelling, exploring the island, and visiting
relatives.
In December of '97,
Grace and I took a special Caribbean cruise that featured pro volleyball
players. We went to the following ports:
-
Peurto Rico
We got to the launching
off island of Peurto Rico a day early, so that we could explore and relax
before the cruise began. Besides, we felt safer being early for the
ship, for fear that there'd be delays in our flight to Peurto Rico.
While on the island, we really enjoyed visiting the rain forests there.
-
Aruba
Our first stop was
Aruba, where we visited a secluded island owned by one of the local hotels.
-
Curacao
In Curacao we went
snorkelling on one side of the island, where a sunken tugboat lay.
-
St. Thomas
St. Thomas was one
of our favorites. We searched for an underwater sea park we had heard
about, but once we got there, we found out that it was under construction,
due to a hurricane that hit it the previous year. So we were able
to enjoy the long white sand beaches instead.
-
Tortola
Our last stop was
Tortola, where we had an interesting local named "Bob" who drove us around
the island and showed us around.
